NYT: US Weapons Already Finding Way Into ISIS Hands

Some of the weapons recently supplied to the Iraqi forces by U.S. taxpayers have already ended up in the hands of Islamic State jihadist, reports The New York Times.

That is a testament of the entrenched corruption in Iraq’s military that threatens to undermine U.S. efforts against the Islamic State (IS, also known as ISIS and ISIL).

In its 2015 budget, the Pentagon has requested $1.3 billion for Iraqi military weapons.

“But some of the weaponry recently supplied by the army has already ended up on the black market and in the hands of Islamic State fighters, according to Iraqi officers and lawmakers. American officials directed questions to the Iraqi government,” reports the Times.

“I told the Americans, don’t give any weapons through the army — not even one piece — because corruption is everywhere, and you will not see any of it,” Col. Shaaban al-Obeidi of the internal Iraqi security forces, told the Times. “Our people will steal it.”

President Obama has requested an additional 1,500 U.S. troops for the “advise and assist” mission in Iraq. Those soldiers will nearly double the number already there.

“Reducing corruption is not part of the advisers’ role,” one American official involved in the effort told the Times, “and there is no reason to believe that advisers’ presence will reduce corruption.”

Nevertheless, Iraq war veterans told the Times that advisers could work with Iraqi forces to reduce “the military’s troubles with kickbacks, inflated payrolls and other graft.”

Largest Solar Farm In Africa Becomes Fully Operational

By John Vibes

This month, the largest solar farm in Africa became fully operational in Kimberley, South Africa.

The solar farm is called the Jasper Solar Power Project, and will produce an estimated 180,000 megawatt-hours of energy annually for South African residents, which is enough to power up to 80,000 homes.

However, another solar project in Africa may soon outshine the Jasper project. It was also reported that a 100-megawatt concentrated solar thermal power (CSP) project called Redstone is under construction nearby.

The project was designed by a group of specialists from a variety of companies, including, SolarReserve, the Kensani Group and Intikon Energy. The project also received financial support from Google, Intikon Energy, Kensani Capital Investments, the PEACE Humansrus Community Trust, and SolarReserve with Rand Merchant Bank.

The companies sourced nearly half of their building materials from the local economy, as a way of enriching local communities with the project.

Jasper Solar Energy Project aka Jasper PV Project is located near Kimberley in South Africa’s Northern Cape producing 96 MW of clean energy.

Google has a recent history of investing in wind and solar power, and since 2010 has committed to more than US$1 billion in renewable energy projects worldwide. Until 2013 little of this was spent on renewable energy in Africa. A new $12 million investment in the Jasper power project, at a project cost of approximately ZAR2.3 billion ($260 million) signals a change in policy. It is one of the largest solar installations in Africa, comprising over 325,000 PV modules and providing enough power for 30,000 homes.

New Russian Gun Laws to Allow Citizens to Carry Concealed Firearms

By Christina Sterbenz and Elena Holodny

After a change to national gun law on Tuesday, Russians can now carry certain guns in public for the purposes of “self-defense.”

The new policy allows the use of weapons to “protect their lives, health and property” but not against “women, disabled persons, and minors, unless they attacked you with a group and arms,” according to an analysis by Russian media site Arguments and Facts.

These weapons include “long-barreled weapons, pistols, revolvers, ‘home-made tubeless firearm units’ with cartridges, bullets and ammunition; gas pistols and revolvers, electric shock devices, devices equipped with tear gas, and home-made spark gaps,” according to the state-owned TASS news agency.

Additionally, those who have attained licenses are prohibited from carrying weapons during rallies, meetings, demonstrations, recreational activities, and religious ceremonies, according to Arguments and Facts. During certain events and parades, however, cossacks and participants of the events are allowed to carry swords as part of their costumes.

Prior to the change, weapons were only allowed for hunting and sporting events, as well as training and shooting practice. Laws also prohibited rifles, pistols, and revolvers, according to GunPolicy.org.

Many Russians, however, don’t approve of this amendment. “Horrified. I am horrified,” one Muscovite told Business Insider.

US Never Intended to Defeat ISIS

US Never Intended to Defeat ISIS

US Never Intended to Defeat ISIS

By Tony Cartalucci

A torrent of “foiled” terror plots have recently undulated headlines across the Western World. In Rochester New York, the FBI netted a man they claimed was plotting a shooting spree targeting US service members. In Australia, over 800 security agents swooped in on 15 ISIS suspects whom the Australian government claimed were plotting to randomly behead a member of the public. In the UK, 4 suspects allegedly linked to ISIS were arrested before carrying out a plot Scotland Yards claims was aimed at the Queen of England herself.

US Never Intended to Defeat ISISAccording to Western security agencies, in addition to ISIS’ regional campaign of brutality stretching from Lebanon, across Syria, and into Iraq, it is also working ceaselessly to carry out attacks against targets within the US, across Europe, and even in the Pacific.

US Policymakers Claim ISIS is Neither a Threat Nor Necessary to Defeat
Considering the hysteria generated by ISIS’ alleged global exploits, it should then be infinitely curious to readers who happen across US policymakers claiming that ISIS may pose a threat, but constitutes by far a lesser threat than Iran or Syria – the two principle nations leading the real fight against ISIS and its international sponsors. Furthermore, US policymakers claim there is no urgency to defeat ISIS, and it should instead be “contained.” Of course, this “containment” will be within states targeted by US-backed regime change – serving as a convenient agent of destruction, destabilization, and perhaps even regime change itself.

There are other hard questions for even bigger threats in the Middle East, such as how to ensure a nuclear free Iran and how to deal with the Assad regime in Syria. For ISIS, though, we may have it right.More troubling still, such policymakers hail from the US-based Brookings Institution, a prominent corporate-financier funded policy think-tank that has helped direct American foreign policy for decades. Brookings “Federal Executive Fellow” Robert Hein, a career US Navy officer, has presented analysis under an article titled, “The Big Questions on ISIS.” After diminishing the threat ISIS actually poses to the US and suggesting that the battle against the terrorist organization will be perpetual.

Assange Announces WikiLeaks is Preparing a New Series of Leaks

By teleSUR/kb-OA

Speaking at the Lisbon and Estoril Film Festival on Sunday (LEFFEST), WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange affirmed that the whistle-blowing website is preparing to publish a forth Spy Files – a series of leaked secret documents.

The last Spy Files released by WikiLeaks in 2013, leaked 250 documents from more than 90 surveillance companies that revealed the extent of the secret, global mass surveillance industry.

Assange Announces WikiLeaks is Preparing a New Series of LeaksAssange was vague about the details of the new documents, however, and did not give specific information on the contents or the date of their release.

“I’ve delegated that to someone else in the organization,” he told an audience in Lisbon via teleconference from the Embassy of Ecuador in London.

Assange also criticized Google for working with the United States government in their efforts to control information and collect data, and rejected the idea that mass surveillance was the most appropriate method to combat terrorism

At the LEFFEST forum, titled “Mass Surveillance,” Assange also spoke alongside Jacob Appelbaum, core member of the Tor project, a free software program designed to provide online anonymity, and Jeremie Zimmerman, co-founder of the Paris-based La Quadure du Net (Squaring of the Net, in French), a citizen advocacy group that promotes personal freedoms and digital rights.

Nearly 36 Million People are Slaves, Qatar in Focus: Global Index

By Katie Nguyen | Reuters

LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) – Almost 36 million people are living as slaves across the globe with an index on Monday listing Mauritania, Uzbekistan, Haiti, Qatar and India as the nations where modern-day slavery is most prevalent.

The Walk Free Foundation, an Australian-based human rights group, estimated in its inaugural slavery index last year that 29.8 million people were born into servitude, trafficked for sex work, trapped in debt bondage or exploited for forced labour.

Releasing its second annual index, Walk Free increased its estimate of the number of slaves to 35.8 million, saying this was due to better data collection and slavery being uncovered in areas where it had not been found previously.

For the second year, the index of 167 countries found India had by far the greatest number of slaves. Up to 14.3 million people in its population of 1.25 billion were victims of slavery, ranging from prostitution to bonded labour.

Mauritania was again the country where slavery was most prevalent by head of population while Qatar, host of the 2022 World Cup, rose up the rank from 96th place to be listed as the fourth worst country by percentage of the population.

“From children denied an education by being forced to work or marry early, to men unable to leave their work because of crushing debts they owe to recruitment agents, to women and girls exploited as unpaid, abused domestic workers, modern slavery has many faces,” the report said.

“It still exists today, in every country – modern slavery affects us all.”

The index defines slavery as the control or possession of people in such a way as to deprive them of their freedom with the intention of exploiting them for profit or sex, usually through violence, coercion or deception.

Facebook in Talks with Satellite Technology Firm in Bid to Provide Free Internet Across Africa

By Khaleda Rahman | MailOnline

Facebook is in talks with a London-based satellite technology firm about a ground-breaking bid to prove free internet access in large parts of Africa.

The project, under the social network’s Internet.org initiative, is part of founder Mark Zuckerberg’s plan to put the developing world online.

It has been reported the deal with satellite operator Avanti is expected to be announced soon.

Mr Zuckerberg turned to the company after plans to bring the Internet to Africa with mobile operators, including Vodafone, were rejected.

A commercial deal with Avanti would mean Facebook could cover swathes of Africa at a relatively low cost, reported The Telegraph.

The company already owns two broadband satellites positioned over the continent and plans to increase coverage by launching a further three in the next few years.

Facebook’s Internet.org is aimed to ‘bring the Internet to the two thirds of the world’s population that doesn’t have it’.

Its mission statement says: ‘No one should have to choose between access to the Internet and food or medicine.

‘Internet.org partners will join forces to develop technology that decreases the cost of delivering data to people worldwide, and helps expand Internet access in underserved communities.’

Internet.org believes if developing economies had the same levels of internet access as in the first world, global productivity would be boosted by 25% and 160million people would be lifted out of poverty.

In an interview with CNN, Mr Zuckerberg said he wanted ‘to put the whole world online’.

Third Australian warship sent to halt Russian flotilla bound for G20 in Brisbane

Third Australian warship sent to halt Russian flotilla bound for G20 in Brisbane

By Ian McPhedran

RUSSIA has for the first time explained the presence of a fleet of warships off north-eastern Australia, saying that the ships are testing their range capability, in case they have to do climate change research in the Antarctic.

The Russian embassy also said the fleet could, if necessary, provide security for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who arrives in Brisbane for the G20 tonight.

The four Russian warships are conducting exercises in international waters around the Coral Sea in a move that has been interpreted as a show of force by Mr Putin.

Moscow’s explanation comes as Defence said a third Australian naval ship has been deployed to monitor the fleet, with a fourth nearby.

A government source said the Australian warship HMAS Parramatta is conducting “exercises” with the Russian cruiser Varyag, as the powerful Russian warship steams towards Brisbane.

The flagship of the Russian Pacific Fleet separated from her three support vessels yesterday and headed closer to the Queensland coast.

By this morning she was off the Sunshine Coast and remaining in international waters.

The frigate HMAS Paramatta contacted the huge Russian warship by radio and conducted a so-called “commex” or communications exercise with the vessel.

Russia Announces Deployment of Bombers Over Gulf of Mexico

By Kurt Nimmo | Infowars.com

Russia will send long-ranger bombers on regular patrols over the Gulf of Mexico, according to military officials.

Following moves by NATO in response to the crisis in Ukraine, Sergei Shoigu, the Minister of Defense for the Russian Federation and General of the Army, said “we have to maintain military presence in the western Atlantic and eastern Pacific, as well as the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico.”

In June, U.S. fighter jets intercepted Russian bombers off Alaska and California.

Earlier this week, the European Leadership Network released a report, Dangerous Brinkmanship: Close Military Encounters Between Russia and the West in 2014, stating there has been an increase in military encounters between Russian and NATO since the annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea region in March.

The foundation supported think tank says three out of nearly 40 incidents had a “high probability” of triggering military confrontation. It reports the incidents “include harassment of reconnaissance planes, close overflights over warships, and Russian ‘mock bombing raid’ missions.”

The increased flights are designed to demonstrate Russia is capable militarily as NATO increases its military cooperation with Eastern European nations on its border.

“It’s interesting the way these multiple violations have been quite carefully choreographed to show it can encircle NATO,” Justin Bronk, a research analyst for the Royal United Services Institute think tank, told Channel 4 News in October.

“They forced as many players within NATO as possible to deploy intercepts.”

Ethiopia: Ark of Covenant Reported Stolen by Church Authorities

Ethiopia: Ark of Covenant Reported Stolen by Church Authorities

Ethiopia: Ark of Covenant Reported Stolen by Church Authorities

By WorldNewsDailyReport

Axum| The Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, His Holiness Abune Mathias, announced this morning that the most prized biblical treasure in the world, the Ark of Covenant, was stolen last night from the catacombs of the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion.  The guardians of the artefact were allegedly put to sleep through the use of chemical weapons, before the robbers entered the crypt and stole the precious Holy item.

Ethiopia: Ark of Covenant Reported Stolen by Church AuthoritiesThe criminal operation was reportedly executed by a team of 12 to 16 highly-trained professionals who travelled aboard two black military helicopters. They landed less than 500 meters away from their objective after allegedly arriving from the East. The men were dressed in black military-style uniforms and seemed to function as a well coordinated army unit. They were equipped with night-vision equipment and armed with high caliber weapons, giving them an incredible advantage over the local security forces.

The 11 guards and armed volunteers present on the site to defend the Ark were neutralized by the thieves, using some high technology grenades that released a rare opium-based soporific gas. The robbers then went into strenuous labor, using jackhammers and explosives to enlarge the corridors in various locations inside the catacombs leading to the Ark, in order to be able to remove the large chest from its underground vault.

The entire operation was over in less than an hour, an incredibly short time considering the number of obstacles that had to be overcome. This amazing efficiency suggests that the thieves had repeated the operation and had carefully prepared their crime.

Millions of Kenyan Women Given Vaccines Covertly Laced with Anti-Fertility Agent

Millions of Kenyan Women Given Vaccines Covertly Laced with Anti-Fertility Agent

By Aaron Dykes and Melissa Melton

(Truthstream Media) The HCG infertility vaccine has struck again, this time in Kenya where over a million women and girls have been administered a UN-backed tetanus shot laced with an anti-fertility agent that will make them unable to get pregnant or cause miscarriages if they try to get pregnant.

Kenyan Women Given Vaccines Covertly Laced with Anti-Fertility Agent

Image credit: McKay Savage from London, UK [CC-BY-2.0]

The vaccination program was targeted only at women and girls of childbearing age who were required to take a whopping FIVE shots over the course of two years. As we’ve reported before, similar covert sterilization programs via the same tetanus vaccine have surfaced throughout other parts of the developing world, including Thailand, Mexico, Nicaragua, and the Philippines.

Even though Kenya’s Catholic bishops have sent six of these vaccine samples to two different independent labs which came back positive that the shots were laced with HCG — which will essentially make a woman create antibodies to their own pregnancy hormones — the Kenyan government has ignored the evidence and will continue to vaccinate another 1.3 million women (and somewhere over at The World Bank, horrible troll people bent on world domination and depopulation are high-fiving…)

The vaccine is sponsored by the World Health Organization and Unicef, which is pretty telling considering that the WHO is one of the first organizations to create and test an infertility vaccine back in the 1980s. As we show in the video, these vaccines actually go all the way back to the sixties when The Rockefeller Foundation started funding research into creating one…

Merry Christmas: UN Declares Arms Trade Treaty to Go Into Effect Dec. 24

Merry Christmas: UN Declares Arms Trade Treaty to Go Into Effect Dec. 24

Merry Christmas: UN Declares Arms Trade Treaty to Go Into Effect Dec. 24

By

UN Declares Arms Trade Treaty to Go Into Effect Dec. 24On its official website, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (yes, that’s really a thing and yes, it is housed right here in the United States) announced that the UN’s Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) “will enter into force on 24 December 2014.”

Merry Christmas!

It is ironical that on the day before the world’s 2.18 billion Christians commemorate the coming of Jesus Christ to the Earth, the United Nations will officially put into motion a plan to deny them of a right given to them by the very God whose birth they celebrate.

For those unfamiliar with the text of the UN’s Arms Trade Treaty, here’s a brief sketch of the most noxious provisions:

• Article 2 of the treaty defines the scope of the treaty’s prohibitions. The right to own, buy, sell, trade, or transfer all means of armed resistance, including handguns, is denied to civilians by this section of the Arms Trade Treaty.

• Article 3 places the “ammunition/munitions fired, launched or delivered by the conventional arms covered under Article 2” within the scope of the treaty’s prohibitions, as well.

• Article 4 rounds out the regulations, also placing all “parts and components” of weapons within the scheme.

• Perhaps the most immediate threat to the rights of gun owners in the Arms Trade Treaty is found in Article 5. Under the title of “General Implementation,” Article 5 mandates that all countries participating in the treaty “shall establish and maintain a national control system, including a national control list.” This list should “apply the provisions of this Treaty to the broadest range of conventional arms.”

• Article 12 adds to the record-keeping requirement, mandating that the list include “the quantity, value, model/type, authorized international transfers of conventional arms,” as well as the identity of the “end users” of these items.

• Finally, the agreement demands that national governments take “appropriate measures” to enforce the terms of the treaty, including civilian disarmament. If these countries can’t get this done on their own, however, Article 16 provides for UN assistance, specifically including help with the enforcement of “stockpile management, disarmament, demobilization and reintegration programmes.” In fact, a “voluntary trust fund” will be established to assist those countries that need help from UN peacekeepers or other regional forces to disarm their citizens.

Arguably, the Arms Trade Treaty would become the law of the United States if the Senate were to ratify the treaty.

While that is the process that the Constitution establishes for the implementation of treaties, fundamental principles of construction and constitutional law dictate that no treaty that violates the Constitution can become the supreme law of the land. In the case of the UN’s Arms Trade Treaty, there is no doubt that regardless of presidential signatures or congressional consent, this treaty cannot pass constitutional muster and therefore will never be the valid law of the land.

Unless, of course, Americans once again acquiesce to President Obama’s assumption of illegal authority and relinquish their rights and weapons regardless of the reasons they should not do so.

Leaked Documents Expose Global Companies’ Secret Tax Deals in Luxembourg

By Leslie Wayne, Kelly Carr, Marina Walker Guevara, Mar Cabra and Michael Hudson

The landlocked European duchy has been called a “magical fairyland” for brand-name corporations seeking to drastically reduce tax bills.

Pepsi, IKEA, FedEx and 340 other international companies have secured secret deals from Luxembourg, allowing many of them to slash their global tax bills while maintaining little presence in the tiny European duchy, leaked documents show.

Secret Tax Deals in Luxembourg

These companies appear to have channeled hundreds of billions of dollars through Luxembourg and saved billions of dollars in taxes, according to a review of nearly 28,000 pages of confidential documents conducted by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and a team of more than 80 journalists from 26 countries.

LuxembourgBig companies can book big tax savings by creating complicated accounting and legal structures that move profits to low-tax Luxembourg from higher-tax countries where they’re headquartered or do lots of business. In some instances, the leaked records indicate, companies have enjoyed effective tax rates of less than 1 percent on the profits they’ve shuffled into Luxembourg.

The leaked documents reviewed by ICIJ journalists include hundreds of private tax rulings – sometimes known as “comfort letters” – that Luxembourg provides to corporations seeking favorable tax treatment.

The European Union and Luxembourg have been fighting for months over Luxembourg’s reluctance to turn over information about its tax rulings to the EU, which is investigating whether the country’s tax deals with Amazon and Fiat Finance violate European law. Luxembourg officials have supplied some information to the EU but have refused, EU officials say, to provide a larger set of documents relating to its tax rulings.

Violent March in Brussels Against Austerity

Violent March in Brussels Against Austerity

By RT

Violent clashes broke out in Belgium as more than 100,000 protesters marched in Brussels against the government’s austerity measures. Police deployed water cannon as dockworkers, metalworkers and students took to the streets.

Violent March in Brussels Against AusterityThe violence flared up at the end of an otherwise peaceful protest, with tear gas deployed as some radical demonstrators hurled objects at riot police and launched attacks with the barriers against the officials. Some set off colored smoke flares.

At least 14 people were taken to hospital following the violence, according to national daily HLN.be.

The Belgian government which assumed power just a month ago has caused unrest with promises to raise the retirement age, cancel a wage rise in line with inflation and cut health and social security benefits – moves that undermine the country’s welfare state.

People supporting the march have said that the austerity cuts only target workers while unfairly letting businesses off the hook. The government is intending, through the cuts, to save some 11 billion euros ($13.8 billion).

“The signal is clear. People are angry, livid. This government’s policies are totally unbalanced,” ACV union chief Marc Leemans told Reuters.

The union estimates around 120,000 have turned up for Thursday march, dockworkers, metalworkers and students among them.

Protesters’ banners included: “Eliminate the causes of the crisis, not the poor,” and “Hands off the pension age.”

A small group set a police motorcycle on fire.

Global Million Mask March

Global Million Mask March

Global Million Mask March

By RT

Protests against mass surveillance, govt austerity and social injustice have taken to the streets in over 400 cities worldwide. Dubbed the Million Mask March, the third annual act of mass civil disobedience was organized by the activist group Anonymous.

United in face and values, hiding behind the stylised Anonymous masks popularized by “V for Vendetta” movie, activists flocked the streets in the UK, China, and the US, just to name a few.

Some of the biggest protests were seen in London where hundreds of activists engaged in a tense and prolonged stand-off with police in and around the Parliament Square. At least ten people were arrested following scuffles on charges of assaulting police officers and different public order offences.

Ahead of the rally, Anonymous, a loose-knit collective that stages politically-motivated cyber-attacks on businesses, government and religious institutions to protect the rights of the people, warned its members of possible police brutality. Meanwhile activists on the ground did their best to stay out of trouble and not provoke any violence.

Yet the prospect of a harsh standoff with authorities did not stop a few thousand from marching through the streets against government corruption, corporate malfeasance and the expanding surveillance state. The mass protest was organized to coincide with Guy Fawkes Day, which is celebrated annually in the UK on November 5.

It terrifies them. They have no particular jurisdiction over the internet. It belongs to everyone,” Old Holborn, member of the movement told RT from London.
